MyHealthChecked FAQs

How do I take the test?

Please refer to the Instructions For Use (IFU) included within the sample box provided. In summary, ensure you have activated your test online. Then ensure all of the components in the sample box are included as illustrated on the IFU. It is then important to complete the required details as requested on the biohazard sample bag and tube of PrimeStore® MTM inactivation media which is Date of Birth and date and time of nasal sample collection. Then wash your hands, clear your nostrils and you are then ready to take the nasal sample.

The tip of the swab provided with the kit should be gently inserted into one nostril until you feel gentle resistance. Hold the shaft of the swab and rotate 5 times for approximately 10 seconds, ensuring the tip of the swab is always in contact with the nasal wall. Repeat for the other nostril.

The nasal swab should be sent to the lab in the sample collection tube. Please place the swab tip down (the tip is the part of the swab that you put first into your nostril) and then screw the tube tightly shut and shake the tube for 3-5 seconds.

How do I check the results and/or the status of my test?

You will receive an email from MyHealthChecked with a link to view your results online and download a Fit to Fly certificate within 24-48 hours from lab receipt if the result is negative. You will be able to access your certificate if your result is negative whether you are using the test for Fit to Fly or General use.

What does the test show?

Negative result- You will receive a certificate for Fit to Fly online. Also please continue to follow government guidelines around social distancing, washing hands and covering your face to keep others safe  - see www.gov.uk/coronavirus

Positive result-A positive result means you have COVID-19. You should follow the up-to-date guidelines on what you should do next on the UK Government website - www.gov.uk/coronavirus

General FAQs

What are the delivery times for this test?

The At-Home Test Kits will be dispatched in line with our current delivery times and methods, as depicted hereYour sample should be sent back to the lab utilizing Royal Mail Priority Postboxes

Please check the collection times from these Priority Postboxes. If used for travel ensure that you have your kit at least 72 hours before you're due to travel. Be aware delays may occur with tests posted at weekends or bank holidays.

What are the differences between at home and in store testing?

The At-Home Test Kits are completed by yourself in the comfort of your own home and is a swab test. The In-Store PCR COVID-19 service is completed by a member of staff and is a swab test. The Rapid Antigen Testing Service is a nasal swab antigen test to check for a current COVID-19 (coronavirus) infection.  Both the in-store PCR COVID-19 test and at home test kit are PCR (Polymerase chain reaction) tests.

What’s the difference between this test and the 30-minute lateral flow test I can get locally for free?

The main differences are the levels of accuracy between a lateral flow test and a PCR test, and that the government-supplied free tests don’t provide you with the certification you need for travel (when ordering fit to fly). Recommendation is for lateral flow device testing to be undertaken regularly e.g. twice.

What is the difference between a Saliva and Swab Test?

A saliva test is a spit sample whereas a swab test is where you need to use a swab to gather a sample from the top of your nose and/or back of your throat. So the saliva tests are much less invasive than a swab.  For more information on the difference between tests check out the government page here .

Recent studies show that saliva-based tests and swab-based tests have equivalent accuracy and sensitivity.

Does there need to be a gap between a vaccine and taking the test?

No, someone who has received a COVID-19 vaccination does not need to wait before taking this type of test. The result of the test is unaffected by a person’s vaccination status.

The analysis of the sample collected using the At-home COVID-19 test kit will not be influenced by someone receiving a vaccine. If a test provides a positive result it means that specific genomic material from the virus itself has been detected. This will only occur when a patient has a current infection from SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19.

Can the At-home COVID-19 testing kit be used for Day 2 & Day 8 COVID-19 testing after international travel?

No, ordering the At-home COVID-19 testing kit does not provide a booking reference number that is a requirement for Day 2 and Day 8 post-travel testing. Please see our Day 2 & Day 8 COVID-19 Post-Travel Testing Serviceif you need testing when you arrive in England after international travel.
